The crush-proof travel box - a GR rides inside with a lens cap on, plus two spare batteries and a cloth. No foam surgery needed; armor for a bag, not a carry case.

The newest pick in the catalog, straight from a thread that blew up on r/ricohGR: someone rediscovered the tiny Pelican 1010 as GR armor, and the top answer one-upped it - the slightly bigger 1020 swallows a GR with a lens cap on, two spare batteries and a lens cloth, nothing cut, nothing rattling. The 1010 works too and turns up cheap second hand, but by Pelican's own numbers a GR clears its opening by under 2 mm - it only rides clean once you pull the rubber liner and tape the shell, and that liner doubles as the o-ring seal, so the hack also gives up the watertight rating. The 1020 needs none of that, and GR shooters have run it for years (there is a small cottage industry of 3D-printed battery inserts for exactly this box). Know what you are buying: an o-ring-sealed hard box for a bag, a bike basket or a suitcase, not something you shoot from. For everyday carry, the GC-11 leather case stays the pick.
