Ricoh GR flashes
The GR III, GR IIIx and GR IV have no built-in flash, so direct-flash street and party pictures mean adding one to the hotshoe. The good news is that the flashes that suit a GR are tiny: both picks here weigh about as much as a spare battery.
Ricoh's own GF-2 launched alongside the GR IV and is the only one that talks to the camera. The Godox is the cheap manual alternative that fires on anything. Neither will light a room - think fill light and close subjects.

Before you buy
- GF-2: 19 grams, USB-C rechargeable, roughly 270 flashes per charge, guide number 3.
- On the GR IV family the GF-2 couples with the camera for automatic flash. On the GR III and IIIx it fires manually at full discharge unless your firmware has the update that adds auto.
- Godox iM20: 31 grams, manual power levels, single center pin, no TTL - so it fires on any GR.
- A flash occupies the hotshoe, so it cannot share the camera with a thumb grip or a viewfinder.
- GF-2 stock has been tight everywhere since launch.
Questions people ask
Does the Ricoh GR have a built-in flash?
No. The GR III, GR IIIx and GR IV all dropped it. Flash means a hotshoe unit, which is what this page is for.
Does the Ricoh GF-2 work on the GR III and GR IIIx?
It mounts and fires. The difference is control: on the GR IV family it runs fully automatic, while on the III-era bodies it fires manually at full discharge until the camera has the firmware update that adds auto.
GF-2 or Godox iM20?
The GF-2 is smaller, recharges over USB-C and is the only one with automatic exposure on a GR IV. The Godox iM20 is roughly a third of the price, fully manual, and works identically on every body. If you do not know yet whether you like flash on this camera, the Godox is the cheap way to find out. The iM30 is the same idea with more power.
