Ricoh GR cases
A case is where the camera lives when it is not in your hand. For a GR that usually means a leather case you shoot out of all day, or a hard box that keeps it alive in a bag. The picks here cover both.
Ricoh's own GC cases are the community's default way to carry, and the one accessory family with almost no complaints. For something softer and cheaper that rides in a bag, the pouches are next door.

Leather soft case (GC-12)

The fold-flat sibling of the GC-11: genuine leather that wraps the camera and vanishes in a bag. It will not close over a thumb grip or a hood - bare cameras only.
Before you buy
- Per Ricoh, one GC-11 fits the GR III, GR IIIx and GR IV. The Amazon listing's title just predates the GR IV.
- The GC-11 has a belt loop and still closes with a thumb grip mounted. The GC-12 wraps prettier but will not clear a grip or a hood.
- Skip silicone body cases. They draw more complaints than praise, including trapped lens covers and grit-grinding warnings.
- Pelican 1020 interior: 134.9 x 90.4 x 42.7 mm. A GR IV is 109.4 x 61.1 x 32.7 mm, so it fits with room for two batteries.
- The smaller Pelican 1010 clears a GR by under 2 mm and only works with its liner pulled, which also gives up the watertight seal.
Questions people ask
Does the Ricoh GC-11 case fit the GR IV?
Yes. Ricoh lists one version of the GC-11 for the GR III, GR IIIx and GR IV. The Amazon title only mentions the older cameras because the listing predates the GR IV.
Will a case still fit with a thumb grip or a hood on the camera?
The GC-11 closes over a thumb grip. The GC-12 does not clear a grip or a hood, and it will not close over a Squarehood. If you run either accessory, the GC-11 is the one.
Pelican 1010 or 1020 for a Ricoh GR?
The 1020. By Pelican's own numbers a GR clears the 1010's opening by under 2 mm, so it only rides clean once you pull the rubber liner and tape the shell - and that liner doubles as the o-ring seal, so the hack gives up the watertight rating. The 1020 swallows a GR with a lens cap on, two spare batteries and a cloth, nothing cut. It is armor for a bag, not a case you shoot from.
