Ricoh GR hot shoe covers
A hot shoe cover is a small cap for the top of the camera. It keeps dust and pocket grit off the flash contacts and finishes the top plate when nothing is mounted - which, on a camera that lives in pockets, is most of the time.
It is the least essential thing on this site and one of the cheapest, which is exactly why people buy one. The covers are shaped to each generation's top plate, so there is one pick for the GR III and IIIx and one for the GR IV family.

Before you buy
- GR III and GR IIIx: Ricoh's own metal cover is the GK-1. GR IV family: Ricoh's is the GK-2, and JJC's aluminum cover replaces it.
- JJC's GR IV cover has a silicone pad underneath so it seats snug without scratching the shoe.
- A cover comes off whenever you mount a flash, a viewfinder or a thumb grip, so it is one more small thing to lose.
- It protects the contacts from dust and scratches. It does not make the camera weather-sealed.
Questions people ask
Do I need a hot shoe cover on a Ricoh GR?
No. The camera works the same without one. It earns its couple of dollars by keeping lint and grit out of the shoe contacts, which matters more on a pocket camera than on one that lives in a bag, and by making the top plate look finished.
Does a GR III hot shoe cover fit the GR IV?
The shoe itself is a standard size, so a cover will slide in, but the covers sold for each camera are shaped to that body's top plate. Ricoh's GK-1 is the GR III and IIIx part, and the GK-2 - or JJC's replacement for it - is the GR IV one.
Can I use a hot shoe cover with a thumb grip?
Not at the same time. A thumb grip, a flash and a viewfinder all mount in the hotshoe, so the cover comes off for any of them.
