Ricoh GR wide conversion lenses
A wide conversion lens screws onto the front of the GR and makes the fixed lens meaningfully wider. It is the one accessory that changes what the camera is, and the biggest change you can make to a GR short of buying another one.
On a GR III or a GR IV, Ricoh's GW-4 takes 28mm to 21mm with no crop. The neat trick the community worked out is that it also screws onto the GR IIIx's GA-2 adapter, taking 40mm to roughly 30mm. NiSi sells a kit per body - lens plus a locking adapter in one box - that lands at about 21mm on the GR III and GR IV and about 31mm on the IIIx. Before you buy
- A conversion lens does not mount on the camera directly. It needs the body's lens adapter: GA-1 on the GR III, GA-2 on the GR IIIx, GA-3 on the GR IV family.
- With a genuine Ricoh GA adapter the camera detects the GW-4 and shows WIDE on screen. Third-party adapters mount it, without the auto-detect.
- At least one owner traced focus-breathing problems to a third-party adapter and lost them by switching to the genuine GA-2.
- NiSi's kits include the locking adapter for that body in the same box (PR-11, PR-12 or PR-8), so there is nothing else to buy.
- The front element is bulky and exposed. This is a bag lens, not a pocket one.
