Rigid metal that protects the front element well.

The most-recommended lens protection short of a full hood. It is rigid aluminum with a soft lining, and it genuinely protects. The honest trade-off is friction: it is one more thing to pull off before every shot, and some owners retired theirs for exactly that reason.
